Fire Safety

The Trust complete annual Fire Risk Assessments in all Buildings which fall within the legislation. We complete this on an annual basis to ensure that all buildings with communal areas are safe and have suitable plans of action in place to make them safer still where possible.

Below you will find more information about what we do to keep your home fire safe.

What fire safety information should I have received?

If you live in a multi‑occupied residential building with shared areas, you will have received a letter and leaflet explaining the fire safety procedures for your building.

What fire evacuation strategy does my building follow?

Your building will have one of the following:

  1. Stay Put Strategy
  2. Simultaneous Evacuation Strategy

Check your building’s fire action notice, your leaflet, or contact the Compliance Team to confirm which applies.

What is the Stay Put Strategy?

If there is a fire elsewhere in the building (not inside your home), it is normally safest to remain in your flat unless the fire or smoke is affecting you.

A pdf version of the Fire Safety Booklet can be found here.

What is the Simultaneous Evacuation Strategy?

If the fire alarm sounds in any part of the building or in your home, you should leave immediately and follow the evacuation route.

A pdf version of the Fire Safety Booklet can be found here.

Why does WVHT install fire doors in its buildings?

We install and maintain fire doors to help keep you, other residents, and visitors safe. Fire doors are fitted to flat entrance doors, as well as communal cupboards and corridor doors, wherever needed.

How often are fire doors inspected?
  • Flat entrance fire doors: inspected annually
  • Communal fire doors: inspected every 3 months

We do this even though our buildings are below the 11‑metre legal threshold, as an additional commitment to your safety.

Where can I find fire safety information in my building?

You can refer to the Fire Action Notice displayed inside the building for key fire safety instructions.

What if I haven’t received fire safety information or I’m unsure about my building’s strategy?

If you haven’t received a letter or are unsure which fire strategy your building follows, please contact the Trust on 0300 303 9848 and ask for the Compliance Team. They will be happy to help with any questions.
