WVHT staff make ‘Elle’ of a donation to women’s charity

Every month Weaver Vale Housing Trust holds a ‘Dress Down Day’ for a chosen charity. ‘Elle for Elle’ was nominated by Lucy Goldsmith Communications Manager, as she had heard about the fantastic work they do and wanted to see how we could help.  We normally ask everyone to donate £1 for dressing down, but instead we asked for toiletry items for women.

Elle for Elle is a local charity that collect body-care, haircare and cosmetics from public donations and give to women's refuges, and shelters currently in the UK. Their mission is “To fill the bathrooms of women's refuges with essentials and more to maintain the dignity of women from domestic abuse.”

Currently there are 305 women’s refuges in the Uk housing on average 12 women per site. In most cases bathrooms are shared per three women offering 4 bathrooms per site. That’s potentially 1’220 bathrooms to fill in the UK and 132 being in the Northwest.

‘Lucy Goldsmith, Communication Manager at Weaver Vale said ‘ We’ve been overwhelmed by the donations from our staff, we normally hold dress down days for a £1 donation, but this time wanted to do something different and the response has been brilliant’.
