Looking to get on the property ladder? Then Shared Ownership could be the right option for you.
That’s the view of Rachel Forysth, who recently moved with her family to their new home at Barrington Park in Alsager.
Rachel and her husband and two children previously lived in a private-rented property in Northumberland for 12 years.
Rachel says “My husband works all over the UK, but increasingly he found himself traveling to this area of the country. This involved a lot of overnight stays in hotels so it made sense for us to look for somewhere to live around here.
“My husband is originally from Manchester and has family here so it made a lot of sense. Initially we didn’t consider Alsager but we heard about Weaver Vale and some of the new properties they had at Barrington Park. They encouraged us to have a look around and we were sold – it was such a nice area with lots of greenery, and the town looked lovely. We decided to go for it.”
Having rented for so long, Rachel and her husband were keen to take their first steps towards home ownership
“There are so many different housing options out there. We did consider Help to Buy but we eventually settled on Shared Ownership. We decided to go for it because it gets us on the property ladder. It also allowed us to save so we could buy other extras for the house.
“We dealt with Sam from Weaver Vale and she was absolutely brilliant. She kept us in the loop and her communication throughout this process has been fantastic. She was always on hand to answer our questions and explained how everything works.”
Rachel says the family were daunted by making such a big move across country, but admits that her family have settled in well to life in Alsager.
“It’s certainly very different here. Northumberland was very rural but we like it here. There is lots to do and it’s nice to have local shops and amenities nearby.
“It’s starting to feel like home. There are lots of other families here so it has been very easy for the kids to make friends.
“We have recommended Shared Ownership to our friends who are currently renting and looking to get on the property ladder. You only need a relatively small deposit and our plan is to buy further shares going forward.”
