New Safeguarding Group launched

A new Housing Safeguarding Practice Group has been launched by Weaver Vale Housing Trust, led by Carol Miller, the Trusts Safeguarding Advisor and Sylvia Pascoe, Neighbourhood Experience Manager.

Weaver Vale aim to bring housing providers together to benchmark the standards in safeguarding practice within social housing, to create a shared language by producing housing relevant safeguarding resources, toolkits and information; to support each other as professionals with case discussion and advice. The group also aim to learn together using serious case reviews and domestic homicide reviews, invite experts for learning opportunities and to quality check policy and procedures.

The group is made up of the Trust with Muir Group, Great Places, Trafford Housing, Jigsaw (Adactus), Your Housing and new members joining including Halton Housing.

The groups members have a variety of different expertise and professional backgrounds including, a Mental Health nurse, Social Workers, domestic abuse staff, Criminal Justice, NSPCC, Child Protection Trainers, ASB specialists some with no housing experience others with long served housing experience which brings a wealth of value to contribute together.

The initial meeting unveiled similar needs across all organisations for more case management support, a more consistent approach throughout housing in safeguarding, a greater understanding of housings' role and common misconceptions.
