Litter Pick Project gets underway
The Winsford Litter project supported by the Open Spaces Team and Street Scene at Cheshire West completed a mammoth 3 day litter pick in the Wharton area over the bank holiday weekend. Here Lyn from our Work and Enterprise Team tells us how it all went.
Day 1 - Julia from our Open Spaces team presented the group with litter picking equipment donated by the Trust and Ida Verde. 40 members of the local community joined in the clean-up of the Crook Lane Estate. It was a massive job moving mattresses, chairs, tyres and mountains of rubbish.
Day 2 - We concentrated on our Greville Estate, station Road the Nun House Estate and the Wharton Rec. We were joined by the mini wombles team who enjoyed a picnic after all of their hard work.
Day 3 - The team picked at a more leisurely pace at the beauty spots alongside the river and country lanes. It was very hard work! We estimate that 180 hours were volunteered and we picked the equivalent of 350 bags of rubbish.
This coming weekend focusses on the centre of the town, starting at the Town Park between 10-00-11.00. Equipment is provided. If you live in Winsford or just want to make a difference to the environment please join us. It’s great fun, you meet lovely people and make a huge difference! http://orlo.uk/DX07k
