A Helsby-resident has thanked Weaver Vale Housing Trust for helping her downsize to a smaller property.
Sandra Oughton had spent almost her entire life in the house she shared with her parents.
But after losing both her mum and dad in recent years, Sandra was affected by the bedroom tax. Sandra was also unable to work due to injury and ill-health, which made staying in the family home difficult proposition.
But thanks to our help, Sandra has moved into a bungalow – just a few yards from her family home.
“Things were hard after losing my dad.” Sandra said.
“I had lived here for practically my whole life, but I was determined to move on. I spoke with the Lettings Team at Weaver Vale about moving to a smaller property. There were a couple that came up but they weren’t really suitable. I have a dog so I needed somewhere with a closed garden.”
Sandra also faced the daunting g process of sorting through a significant amount of belongings that her parents had accumulated over the years.
Fortunately, help was at hand in the form of Linda Meredith, a support advisor at Weaver Vale Housing Trust. Linda helped Sandra tackle clearing the property, also securing a skip to help with the clearance.
Linda said: “I was really impressed with Sandra.
“She knew what she wanted to do and where she was going in life. Even through there was a lot of stuff in the house that needed sorting, Sandra got stuck in and filled up the skips and took things to charity shops. Age UK have also been a massive help.
“I have seen a big difference in Sandra. Moving to a new property has given her a new lease of life. It’s also boosted her all-round confidence – Sandra has lost weight and has also got herself some new qualifications as she looks to get back into work. I am really proud of how far she has come.”
Sandra addedL “Linda has been fantastic – whether it has been through helping me clear the house, take stuff to Age UK or just by being at the end of the phone – she has been with me every step of the way.
“I am excited, if a little nervous. I’m leaving a lot of memories behind, but I know I’ll be taking a lot with me as well. I am still close to where I grew up and I can keep an eye on my relatives.”
