Crucial Crew event to help young people stay safe in Northwich

This week, young people from across Cheshire West are being given important safety advice.

The ‘Crucial Crew’ event, coordinated by Child Safety Media in partnership with Weaver Vale Housing Trust, Cheshire West and Chester Council, Cheshire Constabulary and a host of other agencies is taking place at the Brio Leisure Centre, Northwich.

Almost 900 primary school pupils are being given lessons from a wide range of safety agencies including Weaver Vale Housing Trust’s Tenancy Team, Cheshire Constabulary, Cheshire West & Chester Council, The NHS, Scottish Power Networks, GIST, and The Dogs Trust.

Children from local schools, all in Year Six, will be taught about personal safety, anti-social behaviour, crime prevention, road safety, rail, electrical and environment safety, commuter safety and healthy living.

The project provides local children with a unique opportunity to engage directly with a range of multi-agency partnership staff to discuss and learn about personal safety and crime-related issues.  It is a key strand of the Child Safety prevention strategy.

Pupils are given the unique opportunity to learn valuable skills from the professionals, through practical demonstrations and discussions in real-life situations - all within a safe environment.

Sylvia Pascoe, Neighbourhood Experience Manager at Weaver Vale Housing Trust said

“Crucial Crew is a multi-agency child safety event that aims to provide children with the skills they may need to navigate, safely the migration from primary to secondary school. The presentations are age appropriate, and the event is a great way to get key safety and life skill messages across in an easy and enjoyable way.

We are delighted to be involved, our Tenancy Team have been incredibly impressed with the maturity of the students along with their enthusiasm to get involved and learn about Anti-Social Behaviour, and how it can affect everyone.”

The workshops run from June 6th to June 10th at the Brio Leisure Centre, Memorial Court, Northwich.
