Cotswold House

Cotswold House, based in Winsford, offers supported accommodation for homeless women aged sixteen and above.  We support Women to gain confidence and self-esteem and the skills required to live independently and to become active members of their communities.

Cotswold house offers nine bedrooms, three of which can accommodate a Mum and a baby up to the age of two years.  Within the house are communal kitchens, lounges, a laundry and shared bathroom facilities. We also have a craft room, therapy room (where holistic treatments such as reflexology & massage are offered) and a large meeting room, which can be used for professional meetings. The house also benefits from a secure, video door entry system, CCTV and 24 hour staffing.

The Women we provide accommodation & support to, access our service for a variety of reasons including family breakdowns, overcrowding, loss of tenancies/accommodation or social care involvement. As a team, we are proud of the professional, working relationships we have built with other support offering agencies. From these solid foundations, we can work collaboratively with professionals, to provide the best support for our residents.

At Cotswold, we like to celebrate the small wins. We understand the complex issues that can accompany our residents and acknowledge the ups and downs within their lives. Progress, however small and insignificant it may seem, is always praised and encouraged. Sometimes, it is the little steps that can make the biggest impact.

Through our links with local colleges, volunteers and community groups we support all our residents to engage in education, training or work.  Our tailored support offer helps to build confidence and self-esteem as well as identifying any areas that will ensure our residents are tenancy ready, including money skills, cooking, health, parenting and understanding the responsibilities of holding a tenancy. This ensures that our residents participate in positive and productive activities that enable them to become active members of their community, work ready and live independently.

We hold regular fundraising events for the project, to help finance those extra activities that can help to engage and fulfil our resident’s lives.
We are also very grateful to be very well supported by our local community and local businesses. We regularly receive donations of clothes, baby and household items and toiletries, including financial donations and grants.

  • S came to us when she was 8 months pregnant, due to an abusive & unhealthy relationship.  Cotswold house provided her with the support and tools to help build up her confidence, so she could provide a safe and stable environment for herself and her son. S moved into her own WVHT tenancy after a year of being with us at Cotswold house. “Whilst I was at Cotswold house, it helped me become straight in myself & as a Mum. Cotswold gave me the confidence to deal with what lies ahead in my life. All of the staff were very helpful when I needed their help.”
  • C moved in during the Covid-19 lockdown. Although the ways of working at Cotswold changed during this period, we were still able to provide a lifeline to those who are homeless and in need of support. “So when I was 17 I got kicked out by my parents. I had been sofa surfing for just over 2 and a half years. Before lockdown, I sofa surfed in 7 different places and then during lockdown I sofa surfed at 7 other different places. After that I had nowhere else to go and lost all my mates but 1. That’s when Cotswold came and helped me. They have done nothing but help and support me through everything that I have needed help with. They gave me the opportunity to get my life back on track. So thank you!”
