Weaver Vale Housing Trust aims to ensure that all customers are dealt with fairly and equitably.
Policy
The Trust seeks to achieve equality of treatment for all of its customers, without discrimination or prejudice on the grounds of a person’s race, ethnic origin, nationality, religion, cultural background, gender, sexual orientation, age or disability.
The Trust undertakes to deal firmly and promptly with any cases of discrimination or harassment.
All employees are required to follow and implement the Trust’s policies on equal opportunities and to undergo any training and development activities associated with that policy.
Legal duties
Race Relations Act 1976 and Race Relations (Amendment) Act 2000 The Trust has a responsibility under the Race Relations Act 1976 and the Amendment Act 2000 not to discriminate on racial grounds as a provider or manager of housing services and to pursue and promote equal opportunities. The staff employed by the Trust also has a personal responsibility not to discriminate.
Sex Discrimination Act 1975
The Trust has a duty under the Sex Discrimination Act 1975 not to discriminate in the provision of goods, facilities and services by treating a person less favorably than another on the grounds of their sex.
Disability Discrimination Act 1995
The Trust has a duty under the Disability Discrimination Act 1995 not to discriminate in the provision of goods, facilities and services by treating a person less favourably than another on the grounds of their disability.
Race Relations (Amendment) Act 2000
The Race Relations (Amendment) Act 2000 outlaws race discrimination in all public bodies and places a duty on the trust to pursue and promote equal opportunities.
Human Rights Act 1998
The Trust, as a public body, has a duty under the Human Rights Act 1998 to ensure that it does not act in a way which is incompatible with a convention right.
