Happy 100th Birthday!
LAUGHTER has been the key to a life that has spanned 100 years
Winifred Sidall celebrated her 100th birthday with a makeover and a special party with family and friends at her home in Kingsley, on Thursday.
When asked what has kept her healthy for so long Winifred, of Smithy Lane, said: “I try to live my life with a smile on my face and I’ve always said that a laugh a day keeps the doctor away.
“My body might be older, but I can honestly say I don’t feel any different today than when I was a little girl.”
Crissy Watson and Yvonne Banks, from the Weaver Vale Housing Trust’s Independent Living Team, presented Winifred with a special bouquet of flowers to mark the occasion.
“The Trust is delighted to present Winifred with a bouquet of flowers to wish her a happy birthday on this very special occasion. She has been our customer for many years and it was wonderful to hear all of her stories about her life,” said Crissy.
Born in Littleton, Stockport, Winifred was the only girl in a family of five children. She moved to her current home in Kingsley 21 years ago.
In her youth, Winifred was a keen member of the girl guides and met the founder of the organisation, Robert Baden-Powell. She also enjoyed ballroom dancing.
Winifred worked as a milliner and helped to make hats for some prestigious customers – including the Princess Royal – before setting up her own knitting shop, which she ran until she was 70.
Another keen interest for Winifred is bingo, a game she continues to play with friends and family.
“I think playing bingo has helped to keep my mind sharp and I can still get through six books when I play today. I even start filling in other people’s books if they start to get bored,” she said.
Winifred has a daughter, three grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. One of her grandchildren, Carolyn, now 22, even shares the same birthday!
