Paying Your Rent
Paying Your Rent
The amount of money we collect in rent directly affects the level of service you receive. Please help us provide you with a better service by paying your rent in full and on time.
Dealing with rent arrears
An important part of our approach to managing our income is preventing rent arrears in a firm but fair way.
We understand that financial difficulties can sometimes arise when you are trying to balance household budgets. To help you, we have experienced Income Management Officers, a Housing Benefit Liaison Officer and Floating Support Officers.
If you need help from any of these, please contact Weaver Vale Housing Trust on 01606 813300.
It is essential that we manage the income we get each year from rent responsibly and effectively – allowing us to maintain our homes and provide services to you.
If you have difficulties paying your rent, you should contact us as soon as possible to arrange to pay your arrears in instalments that are easy to manage.
Please call us on 01606 813 300 and ask for a member of the Income Management Team.
Who must pay the rent?
You, as tenant, must make sure any rent is paid. If the tenancy is in two or more names, everyone on the tenancy agreement is responsible and must make sure the rent is paid on time.
Even if you are entitled to Housing Benefit to pay your rent, you are responsible for making sure that your claim has been processed and that benefit is being paid. Click here to go to our 'Housing Benefits' page.
How do I check my rent account?
We will automatically send you a rent statement four times a year, or you can ask for a rent statement at any time. The rent statement sets out everything that has been added to or taken out of your account, including insurance premiums, service charges and garden charges (if these apply).
You can check your rent account balance by calling into one of our local offices or by phoning Weaver Vale Housing Trust on 01606 813300. You can access your rent account statement online by clicking on See My Data on the homepage. Using a secure password you can look at the history of all your rent and benefit payments.
What if I cannot afford to pay my rent?
If you are in financial difficulties, please contact us immediately. We can offer help, advice and practical support.

Do you evict tenants for rent arrears?
Eviction will always be our last resort, when we have tried all other options to recover the debt we are owed. Most tenants who have been evicted could still be in their home if they had contacted us when their arrears started to build up and used the help available.
